Everyone loves a sweet treat, and for many of us, a delicious salted caramel frappuccino from Starbucks is exactly the pick-me-up needed! But maybe the drive-through line is way too long, or you’re trying to save a couple of bucks. That doesn’t mean you have to give up your beloved guilty pleasure drink. Just make it at home!

WHAT IS A FRAPPUCCINO?

Good question. This term was trademarked by the Starbucks Coffee Company in 1994 to cover the company’s brand of iced, blended coffee drinks. With a texture that kind of resembles a milkshake, the frappuccino is a combination of either a coffee or cream base, ice, and flavoring of some sort. It’s usually topped with whipped cream.

The drink has been popular since its release almost 30 years ago, and not only is it delicious, but also easy to replicate at home. And the best part? You can do this quickly — in less than 5 minutes!

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE IN A FRAPPUCCINO AND FRAPPE?

The frappé coffee was born in Greece when a Nescafe representative decided to combine instant coffee, cold water, and sugar in a cocktail shaker. This is especially fitting since the word frappé itself basically means “iced or chilled drink.”

The two are very similar, yes, but they have slightly different recipes, and the frappuccino differs from its Greek-born cousin because it typically lacks the foam traditional frappés are known for. It’s also usually made with espresso, not instant coffee.

ENJOY!

Yep, making a Starbucks-style salted caramel frappuccino at home really is that easy. If you’re feeling adventurous, play around with other flavors. You could, for example, opt for a toffee nut-flavored sauce instead of caramel, or add chocolate to this recipe to make a salted caramel mocha frappuccino.
