Constructed and crafted by the coffee connoisseur Dr. Charles Livingston, Lifeboost is on a mission to set itself apart from the coffee competition. Cultivating and roasting its coffee with quality in mind, Lifeboost’s flavor, caffeine content, and freshness are designed to give you a burst of energy, mental focus, and a delicious taste that will leave you craving a more with each sip.
How does Lifeboost achieve this? By selecting only the top 0.5% of arabica beans across the world, and cultivating only single-origin coffee. Sourcing its beans out of a handful of specific Nicaraguan farms, Lifeboost goes the extra mile throughout every step of the coffee-growing and roasting process, utilizing environmentally friendly methods every step of the way.
Let’s talk about mycotoxins
Perhaps the most significant factor of Lifeboost that makes it some of the healthiest coffee on the market is the lack of mycotoxins present within the beans. If you’ve never heard of this type of toxin, you aren’t alone.
Mycotoxins are metabolites produced by molds that attach to coffee plants, and over the years scientists have discovered that they can potentially cause a wide range of health problems like cardiomyopathy, kidney disease, liver failure, and even cancer.

Through the extensive processes that Lifeboost puts its beans through, it can weed out the presence of mycotoxins that can potentially decrease the flavor, quality, and overall healthiness of the coffee. Starting by washing their beans in 100% pure spring mountain water, Lifeboost prevents the beans from fermenting until they endure the wet process. Lifeboost calls this “forced demicuilage,” which is sort of a mechanical process with no fermentation.
After the coffee has been washed, the beans are then pulped. Then they are dried in the sun for several days once their outer covering is removed. Not only does this remove any toxins and reduce the risk of mycotoxins, but it also gives the coffee a rest period, giving the chance for the rich, inner flavors to be coaxed out from within the beans.
And if that wasn’t enough, Lifeboost goes the extra mile by testing each shipment of coffee through The Agriculture Department to triple check that no unfiltered, unseen toxins end up in your final bag of coffee. In fact, if there are any toxins are found present in the beans, the shipment is not allowed to leave the country for roasting.
Our review & Brew
Lifeboost sent us a variety of coffee roasts and blends to brew and enjoy. Our package of Lifeboost was a little banged-up upon delivery (Thanks, USPS), but the bags of coffee themselves were sealed, secure, and unharmed during transport. We got several different roasts to review, and it’s honestly hard to pick a favorite!
Excluding the Biotics Cold Brew, we brewed all Lifeboost’s Coffee with the OXO 8-Cup Brewer to extract and highlight the delicious notes of flavor within each different Lifeboost roast.
After carefully tasting each roast, we’ve created a summary of our favorite qualities about each one. Here’s a quick overview of what we love about each!
The Standard roasts
These roasts are the standard options that Lifeboost offers. If you aren’t into flavored blends, or you prefer to keep your coffee brewing short and simple, each of these will give you savory sips to enjoy.
Light Roast

Things We Enjoy
The Packaging
We always love a tightly sealed, secure bag of fresh coffee, and Lifeboost’s bag design allows you to open and reseal each bag with ease. However, though not all of Lifeboost’s bags come with the same kind of resealable design, the more standard light, medium, and dark roasts do since they tend to be more popular options for many coffee lovers.
Lack of Harmful Chemicals
Lifeboost takes it’s quality over quantity complex to a new level through removing the usage of potentially harmful chemicals found in fertilizers and pesticides. Through eliminating any exposure of their beans to these chemicals, Lifeboost can completely ensure that all of its beans are untainted by unwanted toxins.
Locally-Sourced Beans
All of Lifeboost’s coffee is fair-trade certified and is sourced from smaller farms/plantations instead of large-scale coffee-growing corporations. Through selecting its coffee through small-scale farmers, Lifeboost can ensure that all of the beans are grown and cultivated properly, and it can also keep a close eye on the cultivation process and coffee sorting process to ensure that only the best, most succulent beans make it into the roaster and into your cup.
Furthermore, the area in which these beans are grown is nationally protected, meaning that the coffee crops won’t be exposed to anything that may cause a disruption to the growth process.
Individual Selection of Beans
Another perk of selecting all of the beans from small-scale farmers is the small, individual selection of the beans. All of Lifeboost’s beans are hand-picked and sorted through. Farmers/workers will sift through all of the collected beans and remove any rotten, spoiled, or mutated beans from the healthier, succulent beans. Once they’ve been gathered, the beans are then washed with pure spring water to remove any dirt particles or impurities.
Things That Could Be Improved
Website Content
Each coffee that we’ve tried by Lifeboost has been savory in flavor and freshness, but sometimes it may be hard to get an exact, unique description of flavor for each roast on Lifeboost’s website. Of course, all of the various flavors present in each roast can be experienced once you’ve tasted the coffee itself, but there seems to be a lack of descriptions of these flavors on the website itself.
As a result, it may be hard to do online shopping for Lifeboost at times due to the lack of flavor profiling and description. But have no fear! Our review above should tell you everything you need to know about Lifeboost’s more important roasts.
Branding Consistency
Lifeboost’s coffee is pretty spectacular, but the calligraphic logo/designs on Lifeboost’s espresso roasts differ from the usual clean-cut branding on the company’s other roasts and products. Though ultimately, differences in branding don’t really matter in the long run, this difference could initially confuse some of the customers when it comes to online shopping for Lifeboost’s coffee.
This difference in branding can also be seen in the differences between the bags/packaging of different roasts. For example, the bags that are branded with the more cursive, colorful branding lack the resealable opening, so those who buy these roasts may need to have another container to store the coffee beans.
The Verdict
The final verdict is that we are nothing less than OBSESSED with Lifeboost! Over the many coffees we’ve reviewed, Lifeboost’s determination to go above and beyond when establishing the highest quality coffee possible is probably our favorite characteristic of this company.
