When you think of delicious fall coffee drinks, images of pumpkin spice lattes probably begin dancing through your mind.
But while the iconic PSL is loved by many, it isn’t the only autumn-inspired beverage you’ll find on the menu at the local coffee shop.
The Starbucks Maple Pecan Latte arrived on the scene in September 2017, bringing with it a sweet and nutty flavor that’s reminiscent of a good old pecan pie.
While its pumpkin-spiced cousin is a solid choice for October, the maple-flavored coffee drink gives us all of the Thanksgiving vibes.
Even though this cup of coffee is part of the international coffee franchise’s fall seasonal menu, it’s now exclusive to only select locations.
That’s why we’re providing you with a copycat recipe of this delicious drink so that you can make it at home and savor the maple syrupy sweetness and rich pecan flavor all year long!
What’s In a Maple Pecan Latte?
The maple pecan latte’s main ingredients are espresso and steamed milk, of course, but if you order it from Starbucks Coffee, you can expect to find maple pecan sauce, pecan and brown butter, and a fall-colored sugar topping in your cup, too.
You won’t use the exact same ingredients in your homemade maple pecan latte as the café franchise does, though.
To make the sweet drink at home, you’ll need one or two shots of espresso or espresso-style coffee, frothy steamed milk, maple syrup, and a bit of pecan butter.
Make a Copycat Starbucks Maple Pecan Latte
- Shot of espresso
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1/4 cup of pecan butter
- chopped pecan bits
- Whipped cream
Set your saucepan on the stove and pour in the milk and pecan butter.
When trying a new coffee recipe, whole milk is typically the go-to choice for many, but don’t worry if dairy isn’t a part of your diet; your favorite milk of choice — unsweetened almond milk or oat milk, for example — works, too.
You’ll want to steam the milk and nut butter over medium heat until the two are melted and frothy. But make sure you’re stirring the mixture occasionally so it doesn’t burn!
Once you’ve removed the frothy steamed milk from the heat, pour a freshly brewed shot of espresso into a mug or glass.
Here at Roasty, we’re all about drinking the freshest coffee possible, so if you’ve got a grinder and whole beans on hand, we recommend using home-ground beans in your espresso machine instead of pre-ground ones.
And if you don’t have a traditional espresso maker, you can use an alternative brewing method, like a Moka pot, to make an espresso-style coffee that will work just as well in this simple drink.
Add the next key ingredient — maple syrup — to the hot, strong coffee and stir the sweet, sticky stuff into the cup until it’s well-mixed.
Then, pour the melted pecan butter and milk mixture over the espresso.
Last, but certainly not least, let’s add toppings – starting with whipped cream.
You can skip this step if you’d like, but we wouldn’t dare; the sugary fluff may not be the best nutritionally, but it’s good for the soul.
Then, finish the coffee drink off with a sprinkle of chopped pecan bits.
