Things to Consider Before Buying a Single-Serve Espresso Machine

Nespresso Inissia Reviews

If you’ve ever been overwhelmed by the realm of espresso, you’re not alone. Making great coffee with that perfect barista taste could be a full-time job (and is for a lot of people!)

Luckily, if you want the taste without the work, there’s a solution for you. Nespresso has created a unique type of brewing machine that conveniently packages your coffee into individual pods that get placed into the coffee machine.

How it Works

Once in the machine, the pod gets punctured, and it forces heated water through it, straight into your cup. The capsule then pops out so that you can recycle it. Each machine will have an option to adjust the strength of the coffee, but it does everything else for you.

You never have to worry about grinding, measuring, or packing your coffee. These machines are built to be easy and fast. They’re also smaller than most espresso machines, saving space on your counter. And, while there are other pod machines on the market, we love Nespresso.

Why You’ll Like Nespresso

The initial price point is a win for us. The cost of a decent espresso machine can be quite high, especially if you have to purchase a coffee grinder. Any Nespresso product will be more affordable in the beginning. However, remember that you can only use the proprietary pods, which can cost more than coffee beans in the long run.

While there may still be a difference between your Nespresso and a perfectly prepared espresso, Nespresso made these machines for people who don’t want to take the time to become a world-class barista. The Nespresso will give you a consistently decent shot of coffee every single time.

If you want that perfect morning coffee without the mess of dealing with grounds and complications then a single-serve capsule machine is the right choice for you. It’s a straightforward and budget-friendly option for any coffee lover.

Nespresso Inissia Overview

The Inissia has a small footprint and a simple design, streamlined down to the most basic needs in an espresso machine. It has a one-touch button that automatically turns the device on and will have your coffee ready in 25 seconds. The tool will automatically turn itself off again after 9 minutes.

The water reaches the ideal temperature you want your coffee to be at, and the pods eject automatically into an interior container, which will hold several pods before needing to be emptied. The water container holds 0.7 L, which, although small, will still make multiple shots of coffee.

  • Ease of use with one-touch buttons and automatic shut off
  • Brews your coffee quickly

  • Container for the used capsules is large enough that you won’t have to empty constantly

  • You’re limited to using the specific pods, and won’t be able to try other types or brands of coffee different than what’s offered by Nespresso
  • Capsules can be expensive
  • Milk froth option isn’t included
  • A little noisy

Features and Benefits

Even though this coffee maker might have some cons, they don’t matter if it has the advantages you’re looking for. It can be an excellent choice for many purchasers as a compact and straightforward option. It only does one job, but it does it consistently and well.

Style

The Nespresso Inissia is stylish and compact. It weighs only 5.29lbs and is only 12cm wide, making it ideal for small spaces. If you have a small office, kitchen, or dorm, it will take up minimal area. You also won’t have to worry about needing a grinder that would take up even more room.

It’s a basic style, which makes it fit into any space. It comes in a wide array of colors: white, cream, red, blue, sun, velvet, and black, so you can match the design of wherever you put it. The cable length is 33cm, a medium length that allows for reach without too much cord.

While the body is plastic, the handle is made out of metal for durability. You can be sure that it’s designed with enough quality in mind that it will stand up to use over time. The drip tray is removable so that you can fit larger cups under the spout and clean it easily.

The internal bin is easy to remove and will hold up to eleven ejected pods before needing to be emptied. Even though the machine is small, the water tank holds enough to make nine shots of coffee. The tank also has a lid to prevent spilling.

What’s Included

NESPRESSO INISSIA Nespresso Capsule System

Since this machine is a capsule machine, it doesn’t need a lot to come along with it. There’s no need for filters, tampers, or a grinder. The box is small and compact, just like the machine.

Included in your purchase, you’ll get the Nespresso Inissia, as well as a welcome pack of 16 Nespresso Grands Crus capsules. These capsules will let you try the various types of coffee available, so you can test out what you like before purchasing your favorite kind.

There will be an instruction book and information folder that will give you all information required to use the machine. Remember, this machine is simple and built for one task. If you’re someone who loves lattes or multiple brands of coffees, there are other options available for you.

How to Use it

The Nespresso Inissia is extremely easy to use. From unboxing to making your first cup of coffee, it can take less than fifteen minutes. Although the instruction booklet included isn’t very clear, the product itself is pretty self-explanatory. The operating system has no complexities, so you shouldn’t encounter any problems.

Rinse It First

NESPRESSO INISSIA Espresso and Lungo

When you first purchase any machine, you should always make sure you rinse it out before the initial cup of coffee. The fact that Inissia lists this in their instruction booklet proves that they’re paying attention to the quality of your coffee from the first step.

The first use of the machine is simple for everyone. First, rinse out the included water tank, and then fill it with water and replace it. Put a cup under the coffee spout.

To start the machine, push either of the buttons. When the lights are blinking, it means the machine is heating up. After 25 seconds, the lights should be steady, which means it’s ready to use.

There are two buttons, espresso, and lungo. The lungo button will run more water through the machine. (Using this button will also mean that your coffee is a bit weaker.) The icons show a small cup and a big cup, pretty self-explanatory.

Press the lungo button to rinse the machine. Repeat three times. Do this upon your initial purchase, or if it’s sat for too long in between uses. We love how user-friendly Inissia makes this cleaning option.

How to Make Your Coffee

After you’ve rinsed your new machine, you can go ahead and make your coffee. Lift the lever on the front of the device, insert the capsule, and push the bar back down. Put a cup under the coffee outlet and push the button for either less or more water.

The water will stop automatically, however, if you want to stop the flow of water yourself, just press the same button again. Remove your cup, then lift and close the lever to eject the used capsule into the holding container.

Simple. That’s all you need to do anytime you want to make your perfect cup of espresso. Again, although this machine only does one thing, it does it well and fast, with no fuss.

Automation Options

The only real option this machine has is to program the water volume, which is also a simple process. The alternative is vital so that you don’t have to deal with the spill-over of your favorite cup. Turn your machine on and wait for it to be ready, then insert your capsule.

Take the cup size you intend to use every day and place it under the spout. If you want to program for your espresso cup, just hold down the espresso button. Release it once the ideal level of water is in your container. Do the same for your lungo button.

After you’ve done this once, your desired water level will be stored in the system. Each time you make your coffee, you’ll just have to tap the button, and it will automatically fill your cup to the perfect level.

Alternatives & Conclusion

The biggest thing that we take away from this product is that it’s simple, fast, and good at what it does. The design is basic and user-friendly, and its small size will be a significant selling feature for some. We also like that the pods are recyclable, unlike some other brands.

While the Inissia has no frills or alternative coffee capacity, the fact that it can make a good cup of coffee in under 25 seconds with no real clean-up, is impressive. It makes a decent, espresso-comparable cup of coffee on demand.

You’ll need to make sure that you like Nespresso’s coffee options, however, because once you buy this machine, you’ll be married to them. You also won’t have options like milk frothing. If one day you decide you like lattes better, you might want a new machine.

Who the Nespresso Inissia is Perfect For

Many coffee lovers will love the simplicity of this machine, but it’s particularly useful for people who need things fast, clean or single-use.

Small Businesses

Small business owners will find this product ideal. Offering your clients a fresh cup of coffee is a nice touch to any company. However, leaving a pot of drip coffee on a burner is messy and creates burnt tasting coffee.

Also, having a real espresso maker is time-consuming and needs to be staffed. This machine offers a solution of fresh, single cups of coffee on demand. It will make you and your clients happier. It also won’t break the bank to purchase.

Busy People

Real espresso machines take time to heat up, then time to grind, pack, and pull your coffee. Then they need to be cleaned of grounds. If you’re someone who gets deep into work mode or just needs to dash in the morning, then this option isn’t ideal.

The Inissia will speed up your coffee-making process with almost no effort. The machine heats up in 25 seconds, you just pop in the pod, pour your coffee and go. It also won’t take time to clean or care for later.

People With Small Spaces

Many people don’t have the luxury of a large kitchen or office. This machine is so compact that you won’t have to juggle what to throw out so that you can have good coffee in the morning. It’s so small it could sit on your work desk, and you’d barely notice.

Who the Nespresso Inissia is Not Perfect For

While we do love this little machine, we don’t recommend you buy it if it doesn’t have the attributes you need!

People Who Like Lattes or Different Brands of Coffee

One of the selling features of Inissia is that it will make foolproof espresso, even if you’re a beginner coffee maker. You may be tempted to purchase something this simple just because you feel intimidated by the potential cost and learning time of a latte machine.

Although automated latte makers are maybe a little more pricey, you shouldn’t sell yourself short on getting exactly what you want. We have a good review of several latte options, including the Nespresso Lattissima. It’s a capsule-based machine that also froths the milk at the push of a button.

If you really love the Inissia, though, there are other options for how to add that frothy, yummy milk to your morning beverage. It may not be quite the same, but we’ve found some inventive solutions that will give you that select latte feel.
