Orange Juice and Espresso Recipe: Is It Worth Trying Out?

We can only imagine how hard your brow furrowed after reading the name of this recipe. You’re probably thinking, “Mixing orange juice with coffee? Have the good folks at Roasty finally lost it?”

No, dear reader, we haven’t lost our minds. Instead, we’ve jumped on the TikTok coffee trend bandwagon again (Remember when everyone replaced their plain jane morning joe with Dalgona coffee? Good times…), and we’re here to tell you why you should, too.

Orange You Glad We Added Coffee?

We’ll be the first to admit OJ and espresso is a weird combination, but the best advice we can give you is not to knock it until you try it. That’s what most everyone on TikTok is saying, too. This, the latest trend in coffee, started when @bundaddy, a popular creator on the video-sharing app, posted a video to her profile (which boasts an impressive following of over 700,000 users) of herself adding espresso to her glass of orange juice.

“I haven’t had a latte in weeks,” she declared in the video, “I discovered this, and I have never gone back.” Naturally, a claim that bold piques curiosity, leading her viewers to see if her statement was true and resulting in the rise in popularity of OJ espresso.

So far, we haven’t seen very many people on our For You Pages denying this coffee recipe’s goodness, and that’s because it’s genius. The sweet citrus flavor of the fruit juice perfectly complements the bitter coffee flavor, creating a downright lovely — albeit kind of strange — beverage experience.

Who Shouldn’t Try This Orange Juice and Espresso Recipe?

There’s only one problem with this coffee craze: it’s not exactly friendly for those of us with sensitive stomachs.

Mixing the acidity in coffee and orange juice might be slightly too intense if you and acid have a history of not getting along. If you’re nervous about joining the rest of the coffee enthusiasts who are obsessed with this combo, do a little experimenting at breakfast.

After you pour yourself a cup of iced or hot coffee, whichever you prefer, grab a few orange slices to eat and monitor how you feel afterward. If you can handle both of these highly acidic treats during the same meal, chances are you can tolerate them in one drink.

Now, most people stop the recipe here and enjoy what they’ve created. However, if you want to try something even more unique, you can add a splash of uber-refreshing sparkling water into your glass and make an orange juice and coffee tonic. You can even stir a bit of caramel syrup into the mix. That turns the basic OJ-coffee mixture into a drink called bumblebee coffee that’s perfect for jazzing up your afternoon coffee.

Something about this drink screams “summer” to us, and we’re pretty sure we’ll be sipping it all season long. Join us and save yourself a few trips to the coffee shops in your town by whipping up a glass full of pleasant citrus notes and rich java flavor.
