I love a cup of perfectly made coffee. When I can have a perfectly made cup of coffee from my own kitchen, it’s even better. One of the essential tools that you need to have when making coffee at home is a coffee grinder (especially if you want to make a cup of coffee that will amaze your spouse and your most critical coffee-drinking friends).

A coffee grinder allows coffee aficionados to have the freshest coffee, which means amazing aroma, bright and bold flavors, and that coffee experience you only get when coffee is made fresh from whole beans.

All coffee grinders are not created equal. So, when I was selecting a coffee grinder, I picked the one that was easiest to use and didn’t cost a ton of money. For my home coffee experience, I selected the Cuisinart Supreme Grind burr coffee grinder. It’s reasonably priced but also works incredibly well and makes a great cup of coffee for me. Things to Consider Before Buying a Burr Coffee Grinder

When you’re looking for a conical burr coffee grinder, there are some product features that you should consider. Among them are grind capacity and grind size consistency.

Below are the product factors you should consider if you want to have great, consistently ground coffee every morning.

Grind Size

I like an electric grinder that allows me to adjust the size of the grind. This means that I can use one grinder for espresso, pour over, and everyday drip coffee. Make sure that your preferred burr grinder can easily adjust the grind size.

Grind Consistency

Switching grind size is great unless half of your coffee grounds are too big or too small. A great burr grinder will provide you with a consistently sized ground every time. Why is this important? Well, grind size has a great deal to do with the flavor you achieve from the brewing process and the type of beans you use, and will enhance your coffee drinking experience.

Capacity Bigger isn’t always better. Sometimes you have to pick the grinder capacity that works best for the amount of coffee you’re most likely to make the most often. If you’re only brewing for yourself, a smaller capacity or a grinder that has adjustable grind capacity options is a great pick. On the flip side, a burr grinder only made for grinding a single cup of coffee isn’t a great pick if you’re brewing coffee for two or more people each day. Picking the right capacity burr grinder is also a perfect way to reduce waste.

Features & Benefits

Design

Burr grinder counter top design

Our kitchen doesn’t have a ton of counter space, so when I suggested that another appliance for our kitchen was necessary, I was met with a bit of resistance. Fortunately, this compact-sized coffee grinder fits easily on our counter, and it looks good, too.

Perfectly designed for the coffee lover new to brewing at home, this burr grinder checks all of the boxes. It looks great on your counter, and it’s also compact and easy to use.

And, while this isn’t Cuisinart’s highest-level option for coffee grinders, it maintains the styling and finish that Cuisinart is known for. It fits perfectly with most other coffee-making appliances with a brushed aluminum finish and black accents.

Besides being compact and matching well, this grinder is also nice to look at. This grinder will make your kitchen look and feel like your local coffee shop with a conical bean hopper and square base.

Price

I’m not a millionaire, so I do like to find great products that aren’t going to break the bank. There are many other more expensive grinders out there, but the real bonus of the Cuisinart Supreme grinder is the affordable price. At less than $70, you just can’t find a better option.

Ease Of Use

In my search for a great coffee grinder, I found several options that pretty much required an advanced college degree in rocket science just to grind coffee beans. That’s not what anyone wants when they just want to have a great cup of coffee in the morning.

The Cuisinart Supreme Grind burr grinder is so easy to use. Just twist the hopper to adjust the grind size, slide the ground amount bar to the number of cups of coffee you’re making, and push the button.

That’s it. No rocket science.

And you don’t have to watch the grinds bin for it to reach the right level. The automatic timer stops grinding when it’s finished grinding just what you needed. No waiting, no watching, no risk of grinding a whole bag of beans because you got distracted.

Grind Consistency

Grind Consistency

I’ve started experimenting with different brewing techniques. And as I’ve learned about each technique, I’ve learned that each brewing method has a different grind size requirement. Drip coffee is great with a medium grind. Pour over does better with a more coarse setting. You get the picture. So, it’s important that your grinder makes the right size ground every time.

The Cuisinart grinder did a reasonable job at producing a consistent grind. I am sure that there are grinders that will do better, but for the bargain price and ease of use, I can’t complain about the consistency of the grind with the Cuisinart Supreme Grind.

The biggest complaint that coffee consumers have with this grinder is that, like other block burr grinders, you get a lot of coffee dust. It’s just one of those things.

Noise Levels

This is one of the places where this Cuisinart coffee grinder could do better. Sadly, this grinder is pretty loud. If you are a coffee enthusiast that lives in a small space and don’t want to disturb your spouse or roommates when you’re making coffee in the morning, this isn’t the grinder for you.

To be fair, the grinding process will always be loud-ish, but more expensive models have slower grind speed options, which reduce the noise. The other way to reduce noise is to get a bigger appliance. For the price and the size, the Cuisinart isn’t winning any awards for being quiet, but it really isn’t that bad.

Capacity

Bean capacity

When it comes to capacity, we’ve got two factors here. The Cuisinart Supreme Grind has an 8-ounce bean hopper and a grind chamber that can hold enough ground coffee for 32 cups. That’s pretty impressive.

On the downside, the large hopper and large grind chamber are not airtight, so unless you’re making a lot of coffee, you may find that your beans lose their freshness before you can use them. For best results, we recommend only filling the hopper with enough beans for a couple of days.

Durability

Burr Grinder Design

On the one hand, this is a pretty inexpensive grinder, which generally means you can expect a shorter lifespan. On the other hand, this is a Cuisinart, and they have a reputation for making solid products, even at a lower price point.

It isn’t the most robustly built burr grinder on the market, but the Cuisinart Supreme Grind isn’t bad, either. If you care for it properly and don’t overwork it, this grinder will last more than a couple of years.

We like that it comes with an 18-month manufacturer’s warranty, so if something does go wrong, Cuisinart will stand behind its product.

Value

When considering value, you have to think about the quality of the product, the quality of the results, and the price. Sure, you can get a really cheap blade grinder, but it’s probably not going to last long, and the quality of the grind isn’t going to be great.

The Cuisinart Supreme Grind burr coffee grinder is a good value. For the price, you get an easy-to-use product that is well-made and, with proper maintenance, should last at least a couple of years. It’s a good product for the money, and we think that it’s one of the best values when it comes to burr coffee grinders that you can find.

Ease Of Cleaning

One constant with all burr grinders is that they need to be cleaned well from time to time. Properly cleaning the burrs will keep them grinding consistently and will keep oils from building up in the grinding mechanism, which causes ground beans to stick. The Cuisinart Supreme Grind burr mill has a removable hopper and grounds bin, which make cleaning the inside of the burr block easy.

This grinder also comes with a nice cleaning brush which allows you to reach into the grooves of the burr block to remove fine grounds and any debris from the burrs. If you don’t want to work too hard cleaning your Cuisinart burr grinder, you’ll love that all of the removable parts are dishwasher safe.

The base and a portion of the burr block are not removable. Use a bit of soap and water on a soft-bristled toothbrush for this area. Mild dish soap will cut oils from the fresh coffee beans and keep the grinding mechanism free of sticky residues.

Alternatives & Conclusion

So you want to up your at-home coffee game. That does not mean that you need to run out and buy a super expensive coffee bean grinder. I have found that the Cuisinart Supreme Grind burr grinder is just about perfect for my home coffee grinding needs.

That may not be the case for you and your needs, but you’ll have a better experience with the Cuisinart than with a basic blade or manual grinder. If you want a more robust option, you can always look at more expensive options like the Baratza and Capresso lines of coffee grinders.

They work wonderfully and do a better job creating a consistent grind, but you’ll pay more, too. Of course, you can always upgrade to one of Cuisinart’s higher-level, higher-priced grinder options if you’re ready to upgrade but want the Cuisinart name and reliability.

However, if you’re a coffee connoisseur looking for a good value, especially on a budget, the Cuisinart Supreme Grinder is a great option. With a compact design, simple operation, and good performance at a lower price range, the Cuisinart Supreme Grind has been a workhorse in my kitchen for more than two years.

I’ve taken the time to maintain it, and it has returned the favor by providing me with nearly perfectly ground coffee for my wife’s pour over and my hard-core French press. It’s a coffee brewing tool that I just can’t live without.

Happy Caffeinating!
