Dimensions and Capacity

The Precision Brewer measures 12.4″ x 6.7″ x 15.7,” meaning it might be a tad on the tall side if your cabinets are low. So, as always, make sure  to measure. your space before buying.

precision brewer capacity

As far as brewing capacity, this one can handle put to 60 oz (or 12 cups), which is pretty respectable for a drip brewer.

Power and Voltage

This machine has 1650 watts and110-120 volts of power behind it.

PID Temperature Control

The precision brewer, like many espresso machines, includes a proportional–integral–derivative (PID) digital temperature control included with its thermo-coil heating and pump system. This means that this drip brewer has significantly better adjustability and precision than the typical brewer’s horseshoe shaped system.

As a result, the water temperature can be accurately adjusted between 197–204 degrees, falling within the SCA guidelines. The pump also allows you to select from 3 flow rates to optimize contact time for your specific coffee. Lastly, the stainless steel components ensure the purity and quality of the brew.

All of these elements come together to give you great tasting coffee that’s significantly more adjustable than your typical drip brewer.

Pour Over Adapter

One of features we were the most excited about on this machine is its compatibility with pour overs. You  can attach your favorite pour over device, whether it’s the Hario V6 or the Kalita Wave.

Unfortunately, the no pour over attachment is included with the machine. So it might wrack up considerable extra costs if you don’t already have one and want to take advantage of this capability.

Small Cup Detection

Small cup detection

As always, we appreciate it when brands pay attention to the details, and Breville didn’t disappoint here. As the name suggests, precision is paramount with this machine.

So, unsurprisingly it includes a feature that controls water and coffee contact time when brewing single serve volumes up to 20 oz or when making Cold Brew.

Steep-and-Release Technology

Another brewing detail designed to improve your coffee experience is Breville’s patent pending Steep & Release valve. This component works by holding the water in contact with your grounds when you select small volumes without the carafe.

Cons

Complexity

For some, the level of adjustability sounds like a drip machine dream come true. However, for some, it can be a bit of overwhelming overkill. So if you’re just looking for a bare-bones, get-the-job-done machine, you might want to look elsewhere.

Bulky

As we mentioned earlier, the dimensions on this machine might prove a bit challenging for smaller spaces. Measuring well over a foot tall, some cabinets might be a little too low to allow for convenient placement of this machine.

The Verdict

On Sale

Honestly, we’re pretty stoked about this machine. With the incredible adjustability available in the My Brew setting, this machine definitely an exciting addition to the drip brew pool, especially for those of  you craving customization. Plus, the pour over option is pretty unique!

On the other hand, if you’re looking for something a bit more basic, the price of this machine might look a bit steep and all the options might be a bit much for your needs. If that’s the case, we suggest checking outcome of the other options here. There are several machines available for under $100.
