Did you know something as simple as adding brown sugar can change your coffee-drinking experience?

We don’t only mean granulated sugar, either; both brown sugar syrup and brown sugar creamer do the trick when you don’t want to deal with the grittiness from sugar crystals.

Fortunately, we’re about to show you how to make both! The main focus here is on making the creamer, but the first step is to make syrup from brown sugar and water, so we’re killing two birds with one stone.

Is Brown Sugar Sweeter Than White Sugar?

Because brown sugar isn’t as sweet as its white counterpart, it’s a better coffee add-in for people trying to find a balance between overly sweet and unsweet java.

Besides, it has a deep molasses flavor that blends well with the tasting notes of your beans, especially if they are dark-roasted.

Brown Sugar Coffee Creamer Recipe

Brown Sugar Coffee Creamer Ingredients

You’ll Need

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup water
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • saucepan
  • airtight container

The Process

Step One

brown sugar syrup

First, you’ll need to make a brown sugar syrup, as brown sugar will blend with the rest of the ingredients easier in liquid form than granulated.

Pour water and brown sugar into a saucepan and let the two warm over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

Be sure to stir the mixture slowly as it heats; this keeps the syrup from burning.

Step Two

stirring the heavy cream, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla extract into the brown sugar syrup

Then, remove the brown sugar simple syrup from the heat and stir the rest of the ingredients — heavy cream, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla extract — into it.

Remember that cinnamon doesn’t dissolve into liquids. So, it won’t disappear into the liquid, and that’s OK.

Step Three

You’ll need to let your homemade brown sugar creamer cool down before transferring it to another container for storage.

While its temperature lowers, you can go ahead and get a cup of coffee ready.

If you’re anything like us, the smell of your creamy creation will leave you super-eager to do some taste testing, so already having your joe prepped lets you get to sipping faster!

Step Four

When the homemade coffee creamer is cool, pour it into a lidded airtight container (a mason jar works fine here).

Then, you can immediately add it to your cup of iced or hot coffee, or place the container into the refrigerator until you’re ready to use it.

Enjoy it now or later; it doesn’t matter, as long as you consume it within a week.

Tips and Tricks to Perfect Your Creamer Concoction

  • Adjust the level of sweetness. We only used a cup of brown sugar in our recipe, but feel free to add more or less until you reach your preferred level of sweetness.
  • Experiment with different types of milk. Roasty’s batch of brown sugar creamer contains whole milk, but feel free to use whatever milk alternative you like; make a brown sugar oat milk creamer, for instance. Just remember that each milk creates a differently flavored and textured creamer.
  • Play around with flavor add-ins. One of the best things about making your creamer is that you control how it tastes. Craving maple brown sugar creamer, but your grocery store is out? No worries; you can add a few spoonful’s of maple syrup to this recipe, and voila — craving satisfied. Want to give this creamer a fall twist? Mix in some pumpkin spice. The possibilities are almost endless, so have fun trying them out. And who knows? You might wind up creating your new favorite coffee creamer!

But Wait, There’s More!

Thanks to its sweetness, courtesy of the brown sugar and the hint of vanilla extract, subtle cinnamon flavor, and creaminess, a little brown sugar coffee creamer goes a long way in cups of coffee.

However, it matches beautifully with black tea, too!

So, the next time you find yourself craving a cuppa, add a splash of this homemade creamer.

Brown sugar milk tea has a satisfying yet not-too-intense sweetness you’ll enjoy when you want to appease your sweet tooth without going overboard.
