Every office needs an exceptional coffee maker, and you may be looking for the perfect machine. Let me introduce you to the Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand. This machine promises to deliver fifteen cups of delicious coffee in six to seven minutes.

Is that for real? I took a closer look at the Moccamaster CDT Grand, and I think you’ll be impressed.

What to Consider Before Buying a Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand

Purchasing any coffee maker is a big decision. I know my morning cup of coffee sets me up for the whole day, so finding the ideal machine is essential. Let’s take a closer look at the Moccamaster CDT Grand and see if it’s right for you.

The Moccamaster CDT Grand is a manual drip-stop filter coffee brewer with an auto shut-off. In addition, this machine comes with a double-wall, stainless steel thermal carafe that guarantees to keep your coffee brew fresh for up to an hour or longer with the travel lid.

What makes this particular coffee maker better than others? Technivorm Moccamaster has been hand-making their coffee systems since 1968, and they offer a 5-year warranty and lifetime repairs. They have even earned the Gold Cup Standard, awarded by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and only obtained through rigorous testing and criteria.

But it’s a big coffee maker! The Moccamaster CDT Grand is perfect for the office, large family, or the coffee lover who likes to drink all day long. This model is very similar to the Moccamaster KBTS in that it includes a thermal carafe and manual drip-stop, but it holds twice as much coffee.

I recommend heading over to our review of all the best coffee makers on the market to make sure you find what you want in a machine.

If you’re ready to learn more about the Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand, then let’s dive in!

The Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand is an automatic drip-stop brew-basket coffee maker. It includes a 60-ounce stainless steel thermal carafe and travel lid.

This machine is the largest Moccamaster electric drip brewer available and is the perfect addition to an office space or a large family full of coffee drinkers. I’ve even drunk the whole pot myself, thanks to the travel lid.

The Moccamaster CDT Grand looks completely different than all other models because it has a sleek, cylindrical body style that hides the copper heating element. However, like most Moccamasters, it also uses the nine-hole showerhead outlet arm that ensures an even distribution of water to saturate the coffee grounds thoroughly.

Okay, so it’s a fancy machine, but is it any good? I have a few favorite features that I think you’ll appreciate.

Fast Brewing Time

How long does it take for the Moccamaster CDT Grand to brew fifteen cups of delicious coffee? Six to seven minutes! You will be sipping your morning cup before you even have time to get dressed.

Even with this fast brewing time, coffee grounds maintain the ideal extraction and saturation for the perfect coffee bloom. The brew basket for the Moccamaster CDT Grand contributes to this because of the flat-bottomed design.

Your office will also appreciate how quickly they can brew another pot!

Stainless Steel Thermal Carafe

I’m always a fan of thermal carafes because I don’t have to worry about a hot plate or my coffee having that burnt, over-brewed taste. But the Moccamaster CDT Grand includes a carafe that is fashionable and functional.

This carafe holds a whopping fifteen cups of coffee and keeps your coffee hot and fresh for an hour. If you switch to the travel lid, you can keep it hot all day long.

Copper Heating Element

Tucked away inside this coffee system’s sleek, cylindrical body is a patented copper boiling element. The element is a standard feature of all Technivorm Moccamasters and probably the primary reason their machines are so outstanding.

The temperature of the water while brewing makes a big difference to the overall quality of the coffee. This element heats the water to the perfect brewing temperature: 196°F – 205°F. This temperature ensures a thorough extraction of flavor and fewer remnants left in the pot.

In other words, a near-perfect cup of coffee for you to enjoy.

Nine-Hole Showerhead

The Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand includes the nine-hole showerhead outlet arm, a feature standard in most Moccamaster machines. I rarely drink coffee from a device that doesn’t have a showerhead feature because it contributes to the better overall quality of the coffee.

Moccamaster CDT Nine Hole Showerhead Design

The showerhead design spreads the water out over the coffee grounds, thoroughly saturating them. The Moccamaster CDT Grand features a flat-bottomed brew basket, but with the showerhead design, it still tastes like pour-over coffee, with none of the mess.

5-year Warranty

Nothing gives me more peace of mind than knowing my coffee maker has lifetime repairs and a 5-year warranty. Moccamaster backs up their quality products, and that makes a difference! You will appreciate this warranty if you brew as much coffee as I do.

The Drawbacks

Nothing is perfect, and the Moccamaster CDT Grand is no exception. Unfortunately, this coffee machine has a few drawbacks that may be deal-breakers for you.

It’s Too Tall

Or at least, just barely. At 17.75″ high, the Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand doesn’t work well on a countertop. The average cabinet to countertop distance is 18 inches, which means you can barely wedge it back there but have to slide it out to brew.

For most offices, this might be fine. But I know I’m constantly wrangling for counter space in my home and not being able to tuck my coffee maker out of the way while I’m making dinner is a big drawback.

Water Reservoir Isn’t Removable

I like taking my water tank to the sink to fill. Unfortunately, the Moccamaster CDT Grand brews an entire pot every time, and you can’t remove the reservoir. That means you have to refill all sixty ounces of water every time you brew.

Of course, you can keep a water jug around to resolve this issue, but I wish we didn’t have to.

No Programmable Features

All Moccamaster systems are user-friendly but lack any programmable features. This coffee pot does not have any bells or whistles. It won’t tell you the time, it won’t wake you up with a programmed brew, and it will not let you set brew size, brew type, or make you espresso in the morning.

If that’s what you’re looking for, then disregard it. But for me, I like to set my coffee to brew when my alarm goes off. Sometimes I want a half-carafe or an iced coffee. These drawbacks make a difference.

Hot, Exposed Elements

I have a terrible habit of placing my hand on the top of my coffee maker when I pick up the carafe. Unfortunately, the design of the Moccamaster CDT Grand puts the exposed showerhead outlet arm right on top of the brew basket.  Thanks to that lovely copper heating element, the water pulsing through that arm reaches 205°F and burns.

Of course, I can always re-train myself not to touch that outlet arm, but this is a dangerous design element that I feel needs mentioning.

Should You Try It?

If you’re looking for delicious coffee from an exceptional product, Technivorm Moccamaster models deliver. With their five-year warranty, showerhead design, and fast brew speed, you might not find another coffee maker that delivers the same great taste and quantity as the Moccamaster CDT Grand.

However, it costs a lot, and it’s a significant investment in any morning routine. If you’re looking for a more affordable alternative, check out the OXO 9-cup Coffee Maker with a thermal carafe. It guarantees the same great quality, for half the price. However, it only holds nine cups.

If you want more bells and whistles in a coffee maker, check out our reviews of all of the most popular Ninja Coffee Makers.  I’m a big fan of the Ninja DualBrew with the fold-out milk frother. But I can also program my coffee to brew before the alarm goes off.

Overall, the Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand is an excellent choice for any office or large family. It brews delicious coffee in very little time and keeps it hot all day.

Happy Caffeinating!
