What is an AeroPress Coffee & Espresso Maker?
If you haven’t taken the plunge with plunging your espresso coffee in the morning, let us introduce you to a compact manual coffee maker that can brew a concentrated base for milk drinks.
The AeroPress is a manual, portable coffee maker that uses pressure to brew coffee. Its plunger pushes water through the coffee grounds and filter using gentle pressure. This makes concentrated coffee for a latte-style drink, rather than the high-pressure espresso produced by an espresso machine.
The resulting concentrated coffee can give your milk drink a strong coffee taste. Coffee lovers agree that it’s as good as regular coffee from a coffee shop!
With AeroPress, you can make delicious coffee and turn it into indulgent coffee drinks in just a few simple steps. Our favorite is the basic latte coffee recipe.
What is a Latte?
A latte is simply a combination of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam mixed in your coffee cup. A latte usually has more steamed milk than coffee, with a thin layer of foam; equal thirds is not the goal here.
Coffee snobs will argue that you require a fantastic coffee maker and the ideal pressure to brew espresso. But as a fellow coffee lover, I know the AeroPress extracts coffee with plenty of coffee flavor.
Once you’ve mastered the basic recipe for a latte, you can make a latte with syrup or sugar, or even an iced coffee!
What You’ll Need
If you’ve owned your AeroPress Coffee Maker for a while, you know the actual process to brew a delicious concentrated coffee is easy. Perhaps even easier than using an actual espresso machine! In only five simple steps, you’ll have a flavorful coffee drink.
| Ingredients | Coffee Equipment |
|---|---|
| One scoop or 14-15 grams of ground coffee | AeroPress |
| Water | Aeropress paper filter |
| Milk | Coffee mug |
Step 1 – Coffee Beans and Water
Start with adding one scoop of whole bean coffee to the coffee grinder. You’ll want a medium-fine grind.
While your coffee beans are grinding, start the water boiling in a kettle.
Did you know? Most of the flavor of coffee comes from the beans you choose. So we recommend choosing quality roasted coffee beans to get plenty of coffee flavor.
Step 2 – The AeroPress
Place the paper filter in the AeroPress cap and securely attach the cap to the chamber. Stand the brewer upright on a sturdy mug, then add the coffee grounds to the chamber.
Step 3 – Start to Brew
Once the water has come to a boil, pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds and let it rest for about thirty seconds. Then add the rest of the hot water.
Let your favorite ground coffee steep for anywhere from one to three minutes. The longer you let the coffee steep, the stronger coffee notes you’ll have. The concentrated coffee that comes out will have a strong coffee flavor.
When your concentrated coffee has steeped long enough, attach the plunger and push it down, forcing the coffee into the coffee cup.
Step 4 – The Steamed Milk
Heat your milk on the stovetop or the microwave to create steamed milk for your latte coffee. Be careful not to burn or boil it, or it will leave a bitter aftertaste that isn’t pleasant.
Once the milk is hot, whisk it in an open vessel or use a suitable milk frother to create foam. Don’t shake hot milk in a sealed container.
Step 5 – Combine and Enjoy!
Simply pour the steamed milk into the concentrated coffee. Try about one part concentrated coffee to three parts milk as a starting point, then adjust to your taste. AeroPress also recommends adding milk to its concentrated brew for a latte-style drink.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best milk for a latte?
The answer to this comes down to your preference! Of course, high-quality milk or milk alternatives will always make the best hot and iced lattes. We recommend whole or 2% milk for a creamier flavor.
However, if you’re dairy-free, you might enjoy oat milk or macadamia milk.
Should you froth the milk?
An authentic latte has three parts: espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam. To create the perfect foam, you may want to consider a milk frother. The frothing process will aerate the milk fat and create a nice foam that adds that extra creaminess that we love so much to the latte.
If you don’t own a milk frother, don’t worry! Whisk the warm milk in an open saucepan or pitcher, then pour it into your coffee. Avoid putting hot milk into a sealed cocktail shaker.
How do you make latte art?
If you’re ready to take your latte to the next level, consider learning latte art. You may want to upgrade to an excellent frothing pitcher and steaming wand.
Too much fuss? If you want to elevate your espresso without the mess-o, try a fancy coffee stencil and some caster sugar mixed with cinnamon.
What else can you make?
Once you’ve created a simple latte from concentrated coffee, the sky’s the limit! Why not try iced coffee, concentrated coffee over vanilla ice, or a latte with sugar. Sometimes adding simple syrup to any latte creates a whole new beverage.
