Jura E8 Review

Looking for the perfect appliance to get your caffeine fix? Jura’s E8 is a popular super-automatic espresso machine. Due to its various features and sleek design, it rivals the machines used in any coffee shop. The one-touch brewing button is perfect for specialties such as ristrettos and flat whites.

However, since this is an expensive machine, you’ll want to know all the details of the E8 before you make the investment.

Things To Consider Before Buying a Jura E8

Before purchasing the Jura E8, you need to consider the fact that it is an automatic machine and make sure this is something you are comfortable with.

  • High price tags – expensive costs are associated with automatic coffee machines, and the Jura E8 is no exception. Expect to plunk down a grand or more.
  • The grinder – grinders are important to making quality coffee, and the Aroma G3. Be aware, however, that this grinder has 6 settings, which is less than average. The device does make up for it by how fast it processes the grounds.
  • Cleanliness – maintaining a coffee machine can be a frustrating process, mainly because the cleaning process is very time-consuming. The Jura E8 helps make cleaning as easy as possible with its automatic cycles that the machine goes through at least 2-3 times a day.

Jura E8 Overview

Jura E8 Automatic Coffee Machines 15271, Chrome

The Jura E8 is an automatic coffee machine that provides high-quality coffee in 15 different forms.

Filtration

CLEARYL water filters provide high-quality water while protecting the machine itself from limescale and heavy metals or chlorine.

The Intelligent Water System links the filter cartridge and coffee machine wirelessly via RFID technology.

Cleaning

Keeping the Jura E8 automatic espresso machine clean is just a push of the button. It includes a rinsing and cleansing system that keeps the machine clean throughout in an instant. Super simple for users!

The milk spout can go in the dishwasher and is easy to replace, ensuring the perfect quality milk foam every time.

Size

With a dimension of 11W x 13.6H x 17.5D and weighing 22 pounds, this is not a compact machine that’s easy to store. The size makes it perfect for displaying on the kitchen counter to create a mini-coffee bar atmosphere.

Things we like

The Jura E8 automatic coffee maker has plenty of advantages for the coffee connoisseur such as its classy design, P.E.P., and convenient cleaning features.

  • Comes with a choice of glossy piano black or chrome side flanks.
  • Cleans automatically to eliminate mess.
  • Easy to use due to the TFT color display guides.

Room for improvement

There are always areas for improvement, and there are a few things that the Jura E8 could benefit from.

  • More expensive than most machines.
  • Its extra-large-size makes it clunky and takes up a lot of counter space.
  • Better suited for advanced coffee machine owners, not novices.

Features & Benefits

The Jura E8 compensates for its high cost with loaded features and additional benefits that separate it from most machines.

TFT-LCD Screen

This thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display consists of 6 different buttons to physically push instead of using a touch screen. The buttons are soft to the touch, and I like how a contactless screen keeps it clean and free of fingerprints.

Brewing System

The brewing process is intricate but lends to the E8’s high-quality taste. The process consists of:

  • The Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS) – this system pre-measures the number of coffee grinds you add and pours the correct amount of water to eliminate the guesswork.
  • After implementing Jura’s Pulse Extraction Process, you will know it’s working when you hear the pulsating sound instead of the usual humming sound.

High-quality and Versatile

The Jura E8 is the fastest way to impress guests as this machine can create a wide range of elaborate coffee drinks with great flavor at the push of a button. Espressos, cappuccinos, ristrettos, and flat white can all be made in the E8 and can even froth and steam milk at your convenience.

Customizable

This machine is highly customizable, with eight different coffee strengths ranging from 5-16 grams, which is higher than most.

You can also choose the brew temperature as well as shot and milk volume for specific drinks like a flat white or a latte. The E8 lets you pick how long of a delay you would like between pouring the milk and adding espresso, which affects the foam’s consistency.

Pre-ground Coffee Chute

Brew a second variety of coffee beans without removing your whole beans from the hopper. I found this to be the most convenient experience when making a batch of decaffeinated coffee.

The pre-ground option has a maximum of two tablespoons of ground coffee, more than most typical automatic machines with a pre-ground option.

Easy Maintenance

Since this coffee machine has a lot of intricacies and high-pressure hoses, you would assume this is a high-maintenance product. Jura has built innovative cleaning into the product, making it one of E8’s most admirable features.

When initially starting your machine, you will see questions about the hardness of your water. You can use the provided test strip to take a reading and upload the results to your device.

The coffee machine automatically sets up descaling intervals, matching your maintenance to the machine’s needs. It will also clean itself daily about three different times:

  1. Once on, the machine will go straight into a rinse cycle before doing anything else.
  2. The E8 will clean itself again ten minutes after the use of any milk products.
  3. When powering off, the machine will clean itself one last time.

Technology

The technology alone makes the Jura E8 worth buying. Jura incorporates a few unique systems to ensure you receive the best cup of coffee with every pour.

Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS)

The IPBAS system measures your coffee grounds for you and adds the correct amount of water for pre-infusion, eliminating the guesswork and giving you a perfect cup of coffee each time.

Pulse Extraction Process (PEP)

The Jura coffee machine uses a pulse extraction process to improve the extraction process of pulling the flavors from the coffee beans to make an aromatic and delicious coffee.

PEP presses the water through the ground-up coffee beans in small bursts to enhance the extraction time. By forcing the hot water in short bursts through the ground coffee, it creates a short espresso. This system lets the flavors evolve completely.

HP3 Milk Delivery System

The Jura E8 utilizes the HP3 milk delivery system when making a beverage using milk. The silicone hose removes the milk from its container and then will steam, froth, and serve it straight into your cup. You can use the milk directly from the jug or cup or you can purchase one of Jura’s insulated carafes.

I found that this system is more versatile than the typical wand usually found with most machines, and the milk dispensers have dials, allowing you to control how much milk is used to create the foam.

Intelligent Water System

The Intelligent Water System is programmed into the espresso machine and uses RFID tags to sift out limescale and other harmful substances. The Jura E8 automatically knows when the filter needs replacing, making it one less thing for you to worry about.

Alternatives

The Jura E8 is an outstanding automatic coffee machine with exceptional quality. However, it also comes with a hefty price tag, not so compact size, and advanced technology that may be too much for the average or inexperienced coffee drinker. Below are some suggestions for those who aren’t ready to commit to the Jura E8 yet.

Delonghi Magnifica

If the Jura E8’s size is too intimidating for you, try the  Delonghi Magnifica, which is more compact. The Magnifica delivers a fast and consistent cup by combining several steps into one while keeping the machine’s size relatively small to avoid taking up too much space.

It includes similar features to the E8, such as a large water reservoir, a descaling program, and removable parts for easy and convenient cleaning. The dial-style knobs add durability to the machine as they won’t break down as fast as digital knobs.

Breville Oracle Touch

Those looking for a smaller price range will be impressed with  Breville’s Oracle Touch. Significantly less than Jura’s E8, this machine does not compromise on quality.

You can create coffee shop quality foam using the Swipe and Select touch screen, while the Triple Heat System allows you to heat milk at the correct temperature needed automatically. It also boasts eight personalized coffee beverage settings and can grind 22 grams of coffee beans.

Coffee Cafe Barista

On Sale

For the less experienced coffee lovers or those not looking to make a huge commitment when it comes to coffee,  Mr. Coffee’s Cafe Barista is a great alternative to the more advanced Jura E8.

The Cafe Barista makes creating lattes, cappuccinos, or espressos a breeze with its one-touch control panel. An automatic milk frother is included to create creamy cappuccinos and lattes, while the removable reservoirs make clean-up easy and convenient.

Jura E8 Takeaways

This is a perfect machine for the coffee aficionado who likes a variety of customized, caffeinated beverages, including a cappuccino, flat white, or latte macchiato. It also gives off a great foam and steams the milk perfectly, which can be hard to find in other machines.

Even though the size of the machine is not small enough to be called compact, the presentation of the E8 packs a punch when on display. This swiss-designed machine comes in two beautiful side flank colors: piano black or chrome.

While the chrome is attention-grabbing, keep in mind that it is more prone to fingerprints and requires attentive cleaning.

If you are a coffee drinker who regularly purchases a cup (or several) throughout the day, this may be an investment worth making. The E8 will save you money on specialty drinks, and you can create the exact beverage you want.

Happy Caffienating!
