Jura E8 Automatic Coffee Maker Review: Everything You Need To Know

The Jura E8 is an impressive super-automatic coffee maker. With its many features and sleek design, it even outshines some coffee shop brewers. It’s more expensive than many brewers, but it’s worth it if you like a hands-off approach to espresso and coffee brewing.

Looking for the perfect appliance to get your caffeine fix? Jura’s E8 is a popular super-automatic espresso machine. Due to its various features and sleek design, it rivals the machines used in any coffee shop, and its one-touch functionality makes it a snap to operate.

However, since this is an expensive machine, you’ll want to know all the details of the E8 before you invest.

The table below gives a quick overview of the Jura E8. Following that, we’ll give our review of the E8 and help you decide if this pricey but impressive machine is right for you.

Things To Consider Before Buying a Jura E8

Before purchasing the Jura E8, consider that this is an automatic machine. Some coffee lovers don’t mind surrendering every step of the brewing process to their coffee maker, and some (like me) even prefer it that way.

However, those who prefer a more hands-on approach to the brewing process may find that the E8 isn’t a good option.

The technologies associated with automatic coffee machines come with high price tags, and the Jura E8 is no exception. Budget-conscious coffee lovers may choose to look elsewhere.

Jura E8 Overview

The Jura E8 is an automatic coffee machine with 17 brew options. The built-in milk frother enables it to brew milk-based beverages like lattes or flat whites with the touch of a button.

The Jura E8 can also dispense hot water or a portion of milk foam and can make two espressos or two coffees at once.

Filtration

CLEARYL water filters provide high-quality water while protecting the machine from limescale and heavy metals or chlorine. If you use a CLEARYL filter consistently, you should never need to descale your E8.

The Intelligent Water System wirelessly links the filter cartridge and coffee machine via RFID technology. This means there is no need to keep track of when to replace the filter- the device will let you know.

Cleaning

JURA E8 One-touch milk system cleaning

If you decide to invest in a pricey coffee machine like the Jura E8, you’ll want to keep it in good shape for years to come. Luckily, Jura makes this pretty easy to do.

The Jura E8 has built-in rinsing, cleaning, and descaling programs. Rinsing is automatic and happens whenever the machine is turned off or on. On-screen prompts will walk you through the process when it’s time to clean or descale the Jura machine.

One-touch milk cleaning is a newer feature for this model, and we think it’s a great addition. Leftover milk can spoil and clog the tubing if it isn’t cleaned out, so while this step is simple, it’s very important.

Size

With dimensions of 11W x 13.6H x 17.5D and weighing 22 pounds, this is not a compact machine that’s easy to store. The size makes it perfect for displaying on the kitchen counter to create a mini-coffee bar atmosphere.

Features & Benefits

The Jura E8 compensates for its high cost by being loaded with features.

TFT-LCD Screen

The Jura E8’s display consists of a TFT-LCD screen with six buttons to physically push instead of using a touch screen.

This may seem strange in today’s touch-screen-filled world, but the display is attractive and easy to use. Plus, using the buttons keeps the screen clean and free of fingerprints.

Brewing System

Jura is focused on being an innovator in brew quality. Their machines put out excellent espresso, and the brewing system is responsible for that.

Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS)

The Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS) chooses the right amount of water to moisten the coffee grounds just before brewing begins. This allows the flavors to develop fully.

Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.)

Jura’s Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) pushes hot water through the grounds in short bursts rather than a steady flow. This is also intended to draw out the maximum flavor from the grounds.

JURA E8 Pulse Extraction Process

High-quality and Versatile

The Jura E8 is a surefire way to impress guests, as this machine can create a wide range of elaborate coffee drinks with great flavor at the push of a button.

Customizable

JURA E8 Luxurious operation

This machine is highly customizable. You can choose from ten different coffee strength levels and three brewing temperatures.

The shot volume and milk volume are also programmable, and the E8 lets you adjust the delay between pouring the milk and adding espresso, which affects the foam’s consistency.

Pre-ground Coffee Chute

With a built-in grinder, using pre-ground coffee may be the last thing on your mind. However, the bypass chute for pre-ground coffee can be nice for making occasional cups of decaf.

The pre-ground option has a maximum of two tablespoons of ground coffee.

Easy Maintenance

Since this coffee machine has a lot of intricacies and high-pressure hoses, you might assume this is a high-maintenance product. Jura has built innovative cleaning into the product, making it one of E8’s most admirable features.

When initially starting your machine, you will see questions about the hardness of your water. You can use the provided test strip to take a reading and upload the results to your device.

The coffee machine automatically sets up descaling intervals, matching your maintenance to the machine’s needs. Of course, if you use a CLEARYL filter, you won’t need to descale.

You’ll also be prompted when it’s time to run a cleaning cycle. The E8 provides step-by-step directions on screen.

The Jura E8 also completes an automatic rinse cycle when it is turned on, ten minutes after brewing a milk-based beverage, and when it is powered off.

HP3 Milk Delivery System

The Jura E8 utilizes the HP3 milk delivery system when making a milk-based beverage. The silicone hose removes the milk from its container, steams, froths, and serves it straight into your cup of coffee. You can use the milk directly from the jug or cup or purchase one of Jura’s insulated carafes.

I found that this system is more versatile than the wand usually included with most machines, and the milk dispenser has a dial that allows you to control how much milk is used to create the foam.

Things We Like

The Jura E8 automatic coffee maker has plenty of advantages for the coffee connoisseur.

  • Classy design in piano white, piano black, or chrome.
  • The Pulse Extraction Process extracts great flavor for every beverage.
  • Automatic and integrated cleaning to eliminate mess.
  • Easy to use due to the T.F.T. color display guides.

Room for improvement

There are always areas for improvement, and there are a few areas where we feel the Jura E8 could be better.

  • More expensive than most machines- the budget-conscious may want to look elsewhere.
  • Its extra large size takes up a lot of counter space and might not be a good fit for small kitchens.
  • Better suited for advanced coffee machine owners, not novices.

Alternatives

The Jura E8 is an outstanding automatic coffee machine with exceptional quality. However, it also comes with a hefty price tag, not-so-compact size, and advanced technology that may be overkill for the average or inexperienced coffee drinker. Below are some suggestions for those who aren’t ready to commit to the Jura E8.

Our table below compares a few more options to consider. Read on for more detail about these alternatives.

Delonghi Magnifica

If the Jura E8’s size or price is too intimidating for you, try the Delonghi Magnifica, which is more compact and affordable.

It includes features similar to the E8, such as a large water reservoir, a descaling program, and removable parts for easy and convenient cleaning. The dial-style knobs add durability to the machine as they won’t break down as fast as digital knobs.

One notable difference is that you must manually steam your milk and assemble your beverages using this machine- it’s not a one-touch system.

Breville Oracle Touch

Those looking for a more genuine espresso experience may like Breville’s Oracle Touch. This is a hybrid machine with all of the automation of a super-automatic, but it uses an externally attached portafilter.

You can create coffee shop quality foam using the Swipe and Select touch screen, while the Triple Heat System allows you to heat milk at the correct temperature automatically. It also boasts eight personalized coffee beverage settings and can grind 22 grams of coffee beans.

Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista

For less experienced coffee lovers or those not looking to make a huge commitment when it comes to coffee, Mr. Coffee’s Cafe Barista is a great alternative to the more advanced Jura E8.

On Sale

The Cafe Barista makes creating lattes, cappuccinos, or espressos a breeze with its one-touch control panel. An automatic milk frother is included to create creamy cappuccinos and lattes, while the removable reservoirs make clean-up easy and convenient.

Jura E8 Takeaways

This is a perfect machine for the coffee aficionado who likes a variety of customized, caffeinated beverages, including a cappuccino, flat white, or latte macchiato. It also gives off a great foam and steams the milk perfectly, which can be hard to find in other machines.

Even though the machine is not small enough to be called compact, the E8 makes quite an impression on display. This Swiss-designed machine comes in two beautiful side flank colors: piano black or chrome.

If you are a coffee drinker who regularly purchases a cup (or several) throughout the day, this may be an investment worth making. The E8 will save you money on specialty drinks, and you can create the exact beverage you want.
