Moccamaster KBGT Review

Things to Consider Before Buying a Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT 741

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT 741 is a machine designed for the coffee lover who wants to keep their brew hot without a hot plate. This machine includes a sleek thermal carafe that holds up to ten cups of delicious coffee.

If you’re rushing in the mornings and looking for a fast brew, the Technivorm Moccamster KBGT 741 meets those criteria. It has a one-touch brewing process and a short brew cycle. But you probably also want a quality automatic drip coffee machine.

You’re in luck! Technivorm Moccamaster has been hand-making premium quality coffee brewers since 1968. And that personal touch shows.

Technivorm offers a 5-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty with all their automatic coffee machines and lifetime repairs. They’ve even earned the Gold Cup Standard from the Specialty Coffee Association of America, awarded only after rigorous testing.

If you’re not convinced or want to see some other options, I recommend heading over to our review of the 13 Popular Models on the market. But I’ve given this machine a spin, and there are some pretty impressive features that I think you’ll love.

Let’s take a closer look at the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT 741.

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT 741 is an automatic coffee maker. It includes a 40-ounce stainless steel thermal carafe and travel lid.

This machine is similar to the Technivorm Moccamaster KBG model, but the manual drip-stop difference is significant. Each Moccamaster includes a 5-Year Warranty, lifetime repairs, a brown scoop, and several paper filters to get you started.

I also have to mention the copper heating element and showerhead outlet arm that ensure an optimal temperature and dispersion of water over the coffee grounds in the filter basket. I think quite a few features of this model will impress you.

Let’s dive into what I liked best.

Quick Brew Time

For me, this quality coffee machine’s fast brew time is incredible. The entire brewing cycle takes only four to six minutes! That means you can have pots of coffee hot and ready to go minutes after you jump out of bed.

And don’t worry! This accelerated brew cycle doesn’t impact the quality. The coffee grounds maintain the ideal saturation and extraction for the perfect bloom.

Copper Heating Element

Hidden beneath the water tank lies the patented copper heating element. This feature excels at heating water to the optimal water temperature: the sought-after 200 degrees.

It’s a basic coffee fact that the optimal brew temperature is critical for the quality of the coffee. In only a few minutes, this machine brings the water to the ideal brewing temperature to truly get the coffee flavor out of the grounds. You’ll enjoy every sip of good-tasting coffee.

Nine-Hole Showerhead Water Outlet Arm

Another feature I vow never to drink coffee without is the nine-hole showerhead design. Water pulses through the arm and disperses evenly into the filter basket. This feature contributes to the overall quality of the brew and makes for a delicious cup of coffee.

Stainless Steel Carafe

I happen to be the kind of coffee drinker who nurses a batch of coffee all day long, so I’m a big fan of anything with a double wall. The sleek design makes this stainless steel carafe look like it belongs in a high-end coffee shop, but it’s in your own home!

This funnel-mouthed carafe maintains temperature retention for up to an hour. If you switch to the travel lid, you’ll have hot coffee hours after you brew. In addition, this carafe holds a delicious ten cups of brewed beans.

5-Year Warranty for Consumer Confidence

The five-year warranty on Moccamasters is my favorite feature. I use my machine multiple times a day, so an excellent warranty comes in handy.

Add the lifetime repair on all parts, and how can you go wrong? In addition, most of the pieces are removable, and that’s essential for long-term maintenance and repair.

The Drawbacks

This coffee system has many incredible features, but nothing is perfect. Keep reading to hear about some of the significant drawbacks.

Water Reservoir Isn’t Removable

This drawback is by no means a deal-breaker, but it’s a little annoying. My water filter is a floor above my filter brewing system. So I like bringing my water reservoir to the filter or the sink.

But unfortunately, the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT does not let you remove it, and you do have to fill it every brew because it only brews a whole pot.

No Manual Drip-Stop

Some Moccamaster models include a drip-stop feature, like the Moccamaster KBTS. This manual drip-stop lets you control the flow of the coffee brewer and offers a more hands-on experience.

Sometimes, I want to open the brew basket and stir up the bed of coffee grounds to ensure total saturation. And because this model is not a single-cup coffee maker, I like being able to brew a single cup. I miss this feature on the KBGT.

No Programmable Features

The benefit to every Moccamaster is that they are user-friendly one-button brewers. But that also means you can’t program your machine to wake you in the morning with the delicious aroma of your favorite beans.

The Moccamaster lets you turn the machine on to start the brew, and that’s it. So if you need more features, you may want to look at other premium coffee machines.

Hot, Exposed Elements

I always list this drawback on Moccamaster Coffee Makers because it’s essential to forewarn you. The exposed showerhead outlet arm reaches the exact temperature of the water during the brew. That’s 196°F – 205°F, hot enough to cause burns.

Of course, I can avoid touching it, but I have a terrible habit of placing my hand on top of my coffee machine when I lift my thermal or glass carafe. Ouch!

Should You Try It?

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGT 741 delivers an exceptional brew that outperforms other automatic filter brewers. With its five-year warranty, showerhead design, and fast brew speed, this may be the ultimate machine for the coffee aficionado in your life.

However, this is an expensive coffee maker. If you’re looking for an affordable alternative drip coffee maker, I recommend the OXO 9-cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker. You’ll get excellent quality with a showerhead design and thermal carafe for a lot less.

You may want more bells and whistles, and that’s okay in a coffee maker! Check out our reviews of all the best Ninja Coffee Makers to find one that suits you. I love the foldaway milk frother on the DualBrew, but every system produces the ultimate coffee shop taste.

Overall, the Techniform Moccamaster KBGT 741 is a quality coffee maker from a quality company. If you’re a purist about quality coffee, this is the machine for you.

Happy Caffeinating!
