Homemade Starbucks Honey Almond Milk Cold Brew Recipe

If you want to enjoy a cup of cold brew sweetened with something other than sugar, maple syrup, or agave syrup, look no further than the Honey Almond Milk Cold Brew. Our recipe, inspired by the Starbucks drink of the same name, proves that honey belongs in joe just as much as those other sweeteners.

We’ve long known that honey is a lovely way to sweeten a cup of tea, but did you know you can add it to your morning joe, too?

While some rely on spoonfuls of white sugar, others (especially those who want to consume extra antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins) sweeten their coffee with honey.

Some coffee enthusiasts are apprehensive about stirring the sticky liquid into their java because it changes the beverage’s flavor, unlike sugar.

However, when used in the right recipe — like the Honey Almond Milk Cold brew, for instance — honey’s taste complements the flavor of coffee nicely.

What’s in the honey almond milk cold brew?

All of the necessary ingredients are in this drink’s name, but we’ll clear up any confusion that may remain. The Starbucks Honey Almond Milk Cold Brew contains:

  • Starbucks’s signature cold brew blend
  • Almond milk
  • 2 pumps of honey blend (a combination of honey, water, natural flavors, potassium sorbate, xanthan gum, and citric acid)

What are the best beans for cold brew?

The beans Starbucks uses for its cold brew blend hail from Colombia and East Africa. However, you can use coarsely ground coffee beans from any brand and origin to make your batch of cold brew concentrate. But remember: some coffees yield better results than others.

We used beans from Atlas Coffee Club for this recipe, and we don’t know what impressed us more: how this cold brew tastes or how easy and mess-free the brewing process* is.

Scoop coffee grounds into a bag, drop it into a mason jar or other lidded container with room temperature or cold water, let it steep for a few hours, then remove the bag and dispose of the used coffee however you’d like.

You’ll Need:

  • Cold brew coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of honey simple syrup
  • Unsweetened almond milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Tall glass
  • Milk frother
  • Frothing pitcher

The Process:

Step 1:

cold brew coffee

The first step of making this drink is getting your hands on some cold brew coffee concentrate and diluting it with water.

You can use a bottle of the store-bought stuff, but if you can, make a fresh supply instead. You’ll have to wait at least 12 hours until the coffee is ready to dilute and drink, but patience is the price you’ll have to pay for a fresh-tasting brew.

Step 2:

Drizzling honey syrup over the ice and pouring cold coffee

Next, fill a tall glass with ice cubes (or coffee ice cubes if you’re worried about melted ice watering your drink down too much). Drizzle honey syrup over the ice, pour cold coffee into the glass, and stir.

Step 3:

Pouring almond milk, adding honey syrup

We’d typically say to use your milk of choice, but since creamy almond milk is one of the main ingredients here, pour some of it into a frothing pitcher or small cup and use an electric frother to make it fluffy.

You can add some more honey syrup into the milk before you froth it, but if you take your coffee drinks with mild sweetness, skip that step.

Step 4:

Topping the icy joe with the almond milk cold foam

Finish this cold brew coffee recipe by topping the icy joe with the almond milk cold foam. And there you have it — Starbucks copycat coffee perfection!

How to Make Honey Simple Syrup

Since regular honey doesn’t dissolve smoothly and evenly into cold drinks, you’ll need to use honey simple syrup to make this chilly cup of coffee.

You can probably find the product online or in one of your local grocery stores, but you might as well make it yourself; doing so is easy, and you save a few bucks in the long run!

All you have to do is add equal amounts of honey and water to a saucepan and let the mixture heat on the stove until it reaches a boil, stirring it occasionally until the two ingredients are combined well.

Then, remove the sweet syrup from the heat. Let it cool before adding it to a delicious coffee drink.

FAQs

How many calories are in the honey almond milk cold brew?

A grande-sized (16-ounce) Honey Almond Milk Cold Brew from Starbucks Coffee has 50 calories.

However, the calorie content of your homemade cold brew, almond milk, and honey blend might vary based on the nutritional values of the products used.

How sweet is the honey almond milk cold brew?

How sweet your homemade version of this cold brew coffee drink tastes depends on how much honey syrup you use.

However, you shouldn’t expect it to be super-sweet if you order it from Starbucks. Adding honey and almond milk to the mix gives the cold brew a subtle and not overpowering sweetness.

Will honey dissolve in cold milk?

You should have no problem stirring honey into a cup of hot coffee but getting it to dissolve into a cold liquid is another story.

Generally, a spoonful of regular honey will not blend smoothly into cold milk. So, if you plan to use it to sweeten milk before adding it to iced coffee, you’ll have to make it into syrup.
