What to Consider Before Buying a Moka Pot
There are a few things you should think about before buying a Moka pot for yourself.
Starting with the question, do you really need a Moka pot? If you are not a fan of coffee and do not have it everyday, it is reasonable to say you would not need it.
Second, which Moka pot should you consider buying? You should do your research because there are several brands, models, and even serving sizes available on the market.
Third, how much will you spend on a Moka pot? This is completely up to you, but we suggest establishing a budget before you start shopping since they can get expensive.
Who is best suited for a Moka pot?
Moka pots work well in a variety of situations, especially for those who travel often, or even enjoy camping and getting away from the conveniences of modern life. You can brew coffee using a moka pot right over an open flame, on a portable camping stove, or pretty much any other heat source!
This is also a great option for brewing your very own espresso at home without having to purchase an espresso machine. \n\nWhile a Moka pot does not technically produce espresso, it does provide a very strong brew that is similar to espresso. It uses steam to create the brew and a type of pressure to push the water through the coffee beans.
You may like the Luxhaus Moka pot even if you don’t use it for traveling because it’s small, convenient, and inexpensive relative to other brewing methods.

The home brewer is clearly considered with this coffee maker’s design features that include an ergonomic heat resistant handle, a simple manual brewing system, and a spring loaded basket.
The LuxHaus designer Moka pots have a body made of high-quality, stainless steel, which shows absolute elegance and modernity compared to Moka pots of more traditional design. It is quite challenging to better a classic design, and although LuxHaus retains the essence of the classic Italian Moka pot design, it still manages to look infinitely more innovative than most out there.
Features & Benefits
Stainless Steel Body
The first thing that catches the eye is the modern and fresh design of the coffee maker; it deviates from the typical, bulky, classic Moka pot shape. Even better, this coffee maker has a durable, stainless steel design.
Also, since stainless steel is a poor heat conductor, you are less likely to burn yourself when using it. The Moka pot is also very versatile because you can use it on induction stovetops, gas stoves, travel stoves, and even over an open flame without worrying about damaging it.
Spring-loaded Basket
The basket area of the Moka pot has a spring at the bottom to make it easier to remove. This is a highly convenient design feature that many other Moka pot models, particularly Bialetti Moka pots, do not have. With a spring-loaded basket, it becomes easier to clean the stainless steel pot and ensure that you do a thorough job.
Quick Brewing Time
Of all the methods of brewing coffee, this one is definitely one of the fastest and most convenient. The brewing time is only about two to three minutes on the stove.
Once you fill the bottom chamber with hot water, add pre-ground coffee to the basket, and reassemble the Moka pot, simply set it on the stovetop on medium/low heat. Just like a tea kettle, let the water come to a boil. Within a matter of minutes, the coffee will begin brewing.
A Variety of Sizes
LuxHaus understands that every coffee drinker is unique in their style of brewing and habits. That’s why they offer their Moka pot in 3 different sizes: 3-cup, 6-cup, and 9-cup
Keep in mind that the Moka pot brews strong coffee that is comparable to fresh brewed espresso, so a “cup” means about 2 ounces, or the equivalent of a shot of coffee. Meaning a 3-cup Moka pot brews about 6 ounces of coffee and is sufficient to brew 3 shots of “espresso”.
There are really no “rules” on which size to choose. However, as a general guideline, a 3-cup pot would be ideal for one coffee drinker, a 6-cup pot would be ideal for 2 to 3 people, and a 9-cup coffee maker would be ideal for larger crowds.
Heat-Resistant Handle
Moka pots do have their downsides, as they are small, often aluminum, and heat up quickly which increases the chances of accidentally burning your hand while trying to use them.
Don’t worry though, the handle on this Moka pot is made from heat resistant plastic and is large enough to grip without touching the metal body of the coffee maker. This means it is easier to keep your hand on the handle as opposed to the body which is essential when using a portable stovetop coffee maker.
Drawbacks and Downsides
The Learning Curve
It takes some time to master the brewing method when using a Moka pot because each step is unique. If you are interested in more automated methods of brewing coffee, then this is not the maker for you as you need to watch and monitor the brewing process the whole time. use a Moka pot
Leaking into the Upper Chamber
A key concern we have with this design for Moka pots is the leakage of water and coffee grounds from the lower chamber and the basket into the upper chamber when coffee extraction occurs. This appears to happen only with this specific model of Moka pot.
There is no proof that the leaking water is coming from the outside of the pot, but it is disappointing to see water leak up into the area where your brewed coffee will be. This defect, as long as you use clean water and fresh coffee grounds, is not likely to hurt you or your coffee. However, it does lessen the experience of brewing coffee.
Delicate and Flimsy Lid
With all the durable stainless steel components of this Moka pot, the hinge that connects the lid to the upper body looks especially flimsy and loose. It’s a bit disappointing since we like the rest of the design, though we do see this part breaking down the line, and you shouldn’t have to worry about that with a coffee pot.
