The Complete Guide to Starbucks Tea Drinks (2026 Menu Updates)

Since its establishment in 1971, Starbucks Coffee has built a solid reputation as an international coffee retailer. But java drinks aren’t the only beverages you’ll find at Starbucks; the franchise boasts a list of teas. While the Chai latte is probably the most popular of Starbucks’ tea drinks, there are plenty of other options.

Look, we’re a coffee site. But even the most dedicated espresso hounds need a break sometimes. Whether you’re trying to cut back on your caffeine intake, fighting off a cold, or just want something refreshing on a 90-degree afternoon, Starbucks actually has a surprisingly deep tea bench.

But ordering tea at Starbucks isn’t as straightforward as asking for a tea bag in hot water. Between the syrups, the lemonades, the matcha powders, and the massive menu overhaul Starbucks did over the last year, you need a game plan.

The 2026 Starbucks Tea Menu: What Changed?

If you haven’t ordered a tea at Starbucks in a while, you should know that the menu looks a bit different these days. In an effort to speed up drive-thru times, Starbucks axed several drinks in 2025, including the Iced Matcha Lemonade and the Royal English Breakfast Latte.

But the biggest news hit in spring 2026: Starbucks completely overhauled its Chai. The new premium chai blend is now made without added sugar in the base, meaning you can finally customize the sweetness and spice levels of your Chai Tea Latte without it tasting like a sugar bomb. They also introduced a few functional options, like the Caramel Protein Matcha.

Roasty’s Quick Tea Decision Matrix

Don’t want to read the whole menu? Here is what we recommend based on what you’re actually looking for.

What You’re Looking For Roasty’s Top Pick Caffeine Level Sweetness Profile
A coffee replacement London Fog Tea Latte Medium (~40mg) Sweet & Creamy
A hot day refresher Iced Peach Green Tea Low (~20mg) Fruity & Tart
A spicy, cozy treat Hot Chai Tea Latte High (~95mg) Customizable (New for 2026!)
Sore throat relief Honey Citrus Mint Tea Low (~16mg) Soothing & Sweet
Late-night zero caffeine Iced Passion Tango Tea None (0mg) Tart & Unsweetened

Black Teas (Bold & Caffeinated)

If you’re swapping out your morning drip coffee, black tea is where you want to start. It has the most robust flavor and a decent caffeine kick (usually around 40mg for a Grande hot tea).

Black Tea

Earl Grey & Teavana London Fog Tea Latte

Earl Grey is a classic black tea infused with bergamot (a citrus fruit) and lavender. It’s floral, zesty, and highly caffeinated for a tea. If you want to elevate it, order the London Fog Tea Latte. It takes that Earl Grey base and adds steamed milk and vanilla syrup. Pro tip: Since Starbucks killed the Royal English Breakfast Latte, the London Fog is now the undisputed king of hot black tea lattes on the menu.

Royal English Breakfast Tea

It’s nothing fancy—just a pure, timeless blend of Indian and Sri Lankan black tea leaves. It’s elegant, earthy, and exactly what you want when you just need a standard cup of hot tea to warm up your hands.

Iced Black Tea & Iced Black Tea Lemonade

Iced Black Tea Lemonade

Starbucks Iced Black Tea is shaken with ice to make it extra cold and frothy. By default, it comes unsweetened, which we actually prefer because it lets the bold tea flavor shine. If you want a summertime treat, the Iced Black Tea Lemonade is essentially an Arnold Palmer. It’s tart, slightly sweet, and incredibly refreshing.

The Chai Lineup

Chai translates to “tea,” so please don’t order a “chai tea” unless you want to say “tea tea.” Just ask for a Chai Latte.

Chai

Hot & Iced Chai Lattes

Thanks to the 2026 recipe update, the Starbucks Chai Latte is better than ever. The barista combines a premium blend of black tea, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and ginger with milk. Because the new base isn’t pre-sweetened, you can ask for exactly how many pumps of Classic syrup you want. The iced version is just as good, swapping steamed milk for cold milk and ice.

Iced Lavender Cream Chai

Introduced as a seasonal favorite that keeps coming back, this drink tops a standard iced chai with a sweet, subtly floral lavender cream cold foam. It sounds weird to mix spicy chai with floral lavender, but the earthy notes actually balance each other out perfectly.

Green Teas & Matcha (Earthy & Fresh)

Green tea has less caffeine than black tea (around 20-25mg per Grande) and a much lighter, grassier flavor profile.

Green Tea

Emperor’s Clouds and Mist

Don’t let the dramatic name intimidate you. This is simply a high-elevation green tea with a slightly smoky, sweet, and ethereal flavor. It’s the purest green tea experience on the menu.

Matcha Tea Latte & Caramel Protein Matcha

Matcha is finely ground green tea powder, meaning you’re consuming the actual tea leaves rather than just steeping them. The Starbucks Matcha Latte is velvety and rich. If you’re hitting the gym, look into the newer Caramel Protein Matcha, which blends the earthy matcha with a protein-boosted milk and a sugar-free caramel syrup.

Iced Peach Green Tea

This is arguably the most refreshing drink on the entire Starbucks menu. The minty, lemony undertones of the iced green tea mix beautifully with the sweet peach juice blend. It’s low in calories and perfect for a hot afternoon.

Herbal Teas (Zero Caffeine)

Looking for a late-night drink that won’t keep you staring at the ceiling? Herbal teas are naturally caffeine-free.

Honey Citrus Mint Tea (The “Medicine Ball”)

You probably know this by its secret menu name: The Medicine Ball. It’s a combination of Jade Citrus Mint green tea, Peach Tranquility herbal tea, steamed lemonade, and honey. Yes, the Jade Citrus Mint has a tiny bit of caffeine, but overall, this is the ultimate soothing drink for when you have the sniffles.

Mint Majesty & Peach Tranquility

If you want a pure herbal experience, Mint Majesty is a blend of mint and lemon verbena that will settle your stomach in seconds. Peach Tranquility is a sweeter, fruit-forward chamomile tea with notes of citrus and rose hips.

Iced Passion Tango Tea

Vibrant red and delightfully tart, the Passion Tango tea blends hibiscus, lemongrass, and apple. We highly recommend getting it as an Iced Passion Tango Tea Lemonade for a tropical, punch-like flavor that contains absolutely zero caffeine.

3 Pro Tips for Ordering Starbucks Tea

  • Watch the Sweetness: Most iced teas at Starbucks used to come sweetened with liquid cane sugar by default. Starbucks has shifted toward making unsweetened the default for standard iced teas, but lemonades and juice blends (like the Peach Green Tea) will still have sugar. Always specify “unsweetened” if you want zero sugar.
  • Know Your Caffeine: Black tea has the most caffeine (around 40mg), followed by green tea and matcha (20-30mg). Herbal teas (Passion Tango, Mint Majesty) have zero. For context, a Grande Pike Place coffee has 310mg!
  • Customize Your Foam: Don’t be afraid to add cold foam to your iced teas. Matcha with strawberry cold foam or an iced black tea with vanilla sweet cream cold foam are massive upgrades.
