MoonGoat Coffee Subscription Review: An Exclusive Taste

When you subscribe to a coffee subscription service, you’re not only subscribing to great consistent coffee, you’re also subscribing to exclusivity. It’s nice to receive special perks when you’re subscribed to a company’s products.

MoonGoat Coffee aims to treat its subscribers to something special by giving them a first taste of the newest coffees before anyone else.

MoonGoat Coffee: Company History/Overview

The company of MoonGoat Coffee was founded by Mark Evans and David Longridge in 2018, who both wanted to make specialty coffee more approachable. Together, with company president David Yardley, they were able to successfully make this a reality.

After three years, MoonGoat Coffee is now Orange County’s best coffee roaster. With a roastery and two retail locations, MoonGoat has truly grown into something amazing. They source from over 15 different countries and make sure to leave a positive global impact.

MoonGoat Coffee Subscription Review

In the fun-designed package that I received from MoonGoat Coffee, there were two different 50-gram sample bags of beans.

The Bali Natural and Gar-uh-too-ah AB came in beautiful bags that were both eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing.

Bali Natural

The first sample that I tried from MoonGoat was the Bali Natural, which is a fully natural coffee from some family-owned farms in the Kintamani highlands of Bali, Indonesia.

This coffee is grown in volcanic soils, intercropped with citrus trees, sundried, and comes from varietals of Bourbon and Typica.

The farm it comes from is Organic certified, Rainforest Alliance certified, and uses some of the best environmental practices during natural processing.

Representing sustainability and delicious flavor, Bali Natural comes from producer Local Subak Abian and features tasting notes of strawberries and hops.

Upon brewing a cup of this coffee with my French press, I noticed that the aroma held that tangy and earthy hops smell with a nice complement of sweet berries.

The taste was a perfect blend of sweet and acidic. The notes complemented each other very well and it had to be one of my favorite sips.

I also tried it using a pour-over method and noticed that this made the hops flavor come through even more.

Gar-uh-too-ah AB

The second sample bag I got was the Gar-uh-too-ah AB, an interesting name that comes from its farm, which is run by Peterson and Purity Muthathai Ngarutua.

It’s grown in the Ngaratue estate in Embu, Kenya, where there are more than 7,000 SL28 coffee trees. This estate dry ferments, washes, dries, soaks, and dries again with less than 24 hours in each stage.

This coffee has tasting notes of raisin bran crunch and grapefruit, with a sweetness of granola and a touch of dried fruit. The addition of grapefruit acidity really brings the whole cup together.

The aroma of this brew is very sweet, fruity, and nutty. It’s a very inviting smell that leaves you curious about its taste.

Gar-uh-too-ah AB has a taste that represents a good combination of flavor notes. The nuttiness and dried fruit aspect pair perfectly with the acidity of the grapefruit. Overall, MoonGoat has some great-tasting coffee.

MoonGoat Coffee: Subscription Options

MoonGoat sells several types of coffee and tea, but they also have a subscription called MoonGoat in the Mail Membership. This subscription lets customers try four new coffees every month.

The exclusivity of this subscription allows subscribers to be the first in the know and on the tasting end before the new beans even hit retail shelves.

There are eight different quantity options to choose from, whether you want four 50g bags, one to six 12oz bags, or one 5lb bag. The coffee can come in whole bean form or ground for French Press, pour-over, drip, or espresso.

Deliveries only occur once a month, but you can choose to pay in advance for every three, six, or twelve months. Included with the subscription are tasting notes and brewing tips.

MoonGoat Coffee: Roasting

MoonGoat strives to make it easier for everyone to have access to specialty coffee by sourcing from over 15 different countries, using vendors across the states, and remaining environmentally sustainable throughout it all.

They roast all of their coffee in their roastery located in Santa Ana, California. Other than that, there’s not much information on their roasting process, but you can simply tell by the taste that their coffee truly is of some of the greatest quality.

MoonGoat Coffee: Pricing

The subscription pricing entirely depends on the quantity you order and if you’re choosing to pay in advance for deliveries. However, at the time of writing, these are the prices per delivery of the different quantity options:

If you want your bags of coffee ground for a particular brewing method, MoonGoat charges an extra dollar to do so. Regardless of what you get, though, a subscription includes shipping so there are no extra charges for that!

The company of MoonGoat Coffee sets itself apart from other coffee roasters by making specialty coffee accessible to everyone. As they’ll tell you, they “want to make coffee better and easier.”

Their subscription works as an incentive to coffee lovers by providing them with exclusive access to the newest coffees before anyone else. This also lets subscribers save money since the coffee will have a higher retail price than in the subscription!

How To Cancel MoonGoat Coffee

It’s super easy to make any changes to your subscription with MoonGoat Coffee. All you have to do is access your portal on their website and choose whether you want to pause your subscription, change any shipping or billing information, or any other adjustments.

If you find yourself no longer wanting to receive coffee from MoonGoat, you can just as easily cancel your subscription through the same website portal.

MoonGoat Coffee: Final Thoughts

Overall, MoonGoat Coffee is a great option for exclusive subscriber benefits and specialty coffee access. In my personal opinion, I found their coffee to be some of the best tasting that I’ve had in a while.

There are many options when it comes to getting a surprise delivery every month from MoonGoat. Plus, the packaging of the coffee is gorgeous and would be reason enough to sign up!
