You will also need a steaming pitcher for steaming and frothing your milk, or a saucepan, if you don’t have a steamer, for warming the milk.

How To Make a Black Forest Latte

Making this latte is quite simple and will only take a few minutes.

Note that you will want to brew your espresso first before steaming your milk as this provides the freshest taste.

We also always encourage you to use freshly ground and dosed coffee grinds for the freshest espresso.

Step 1:

pouring cherry compote into the glass

Start by adding the cherry compote and dark chocolate sauce to your serving glass and mixing them together.

If you are not a chocolate fan, you can certainly opt out of the chocolate sauce element and still get a delicious black forest latte.

Step 2:

brewing two shots of espresso

Once you’ve mixed the cherry compote and chocolate sauce, brew two shots of espresso over them and mix.

Step 3:

steaming the creamer and pouring it on top of the coffee

In a separate glass, steam your creamer of choice and pour on top. If you do not have a steamer, simply heat in a saucepan over the stove or in the microwave and froth.

Step 4:

Topping with dark chocolate shavings

Top with dark chocolate shavings or dark chocolate drizzle if desired. Enjoy!

Substitutions You Can Make

Whenever we create a recipe, we like to make them as easily customizable as possible. After all, you are saving yourself a trip to the local cafe, so you should be getting exactly what you want!

The easiest ingredient to make your own is the creamer. You can use whole plain milk or half and half for basic dairy creamers, or an alternative milk like oat milk or almond milk. We just suggest not using sweetened creamers as this will alter the flavor and taste of the drink.

If you want to be as authentic to the cake-like taste, we suggest using the cherry syrup found in Morello Cherries –  it has all the bitter and sweet aspects that the cake has. But you can also opt for any type of cherry syrup that is commonly used in mixed drinks.

We highly suggest using Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce if you opt for the chocolate portion, but if you like your drinks sweeter, you can use milk chocolate syrup as well.

Lastly, if you do not have an espresso machine but are still interested in trying this drink, you can always use very strongly brewed coffee (4-5 ounces), try an instant espresso option or use an AeroPress to create an espresso.
