Why Brown Sugar and Cinnamon?
Here at Roasty, we LOVE making delicious latte recipes that can easily be made at home. After all, if you’ve invested money into an espresso machine, you should make as many specialized drinks as possible, right?
Brown sugar has grown in popularity as a coffee additive that gives flavor and sweetness, and for good reason- It’s simply delicious!
But we wanted to try something just a little different. Although brown sugar is already so yummy on its own, we also love adding cinnamon for a spicy little twist!
By using cinnamon and brown sugar, you’re still getting a rich sweetness, but the cinnamon helps complement it and pulls out the undertones of the coffee flavor.
Overall, these two additives make a delicious blend that really hits the spot!
What You’ll Need
This recipe is quite simple and only takes a few ingredients:
- Brown sugar
- Creamer of choice
- Cinnamon sugar
- Serving cup
- Milk frother
Start by adding 1 tbsp of brown sugar to your serving cup and brew 1-2 shots of espresso over it.
This allows your brown sugar to melt into the espresso and dissolve.
Using your handheld frother, blend together until the brown sugar is dissolved into the espresso. If you don’t have a frother, use a spoon.
Steam or froth your creamer of choice until hot and smooth and pour over your brown sugar espresso.
Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon sugar. Enjoy!
Substitutions You Can Use
All of our latte recipes are easy to customize and make your own. We all have different dairy and espresso preferences, and your drink should be exactly what you like!
Although you can’t substitute the brown sugar and cinnamon itself without getting a completely different drink, you do have plenty of options for the espresso and creamer portions of this recipe.
If you don’t have an espresso machine but still want to try this recipe, there are a few espresso alternatives you can try in place of a freshly brewed shot.
You can create an espresso-like concentrate with an AeroPress that would work in place of a fresh espresso shot.
Instant espresso is also a great alternative and makes it even quicker to make this recipe. However, if it comes down to it, you can always use some freshly brewed coffee.
Creamer of choice allows you to pick whatever dairy base you like best. Whether that’s oat milk, almond milk, whole milk, or half & half, pick a creamer that doesn’t have added sweetness or flavor for the best results.
If you’re a sugar-conscious person, monk fruit sugar brands like Swerve and Lakanto provide brown sugar alternatives that carry a similar flavor profile with fewer calories!
